Born June 7 1958, in Minneapolis MN to John Nelson whose stage name was Prince Rogers and Mattie Shaw, a jazz singer who performed with the Prince Rogers Band, music was in his DNA. Prince was a precocious musical child who taught
himself to play the piano, drums and the guitar before he was ten years old.

A singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, actor and filmmaker. He is regarded as one of the greatest musicians of all times. A multi-instrumentalist who was considered a guitar virtuoso, he was also known for his eclectic work across multiple genres with many different artists. Former President Barack Obama in a Facebook post called him a creative icon and said that few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly or touched quite so many people with their talent.
During his lifetime, Prince won over 30 awards including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, seven Grammy Awards, four American Music Awards. He was nominated for over 50 awards and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. He was also awarded a Doctor of Humane Letter posthumously in 2016 from University of Minnesota. In April 2016, at the age of 57, Prince died of an accidental fentanyl overdose at his Paisley Park home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
